Hapoel Jerusalem ends Manresa’s perfect streak in hard-fought OT battle

It took an extra five-minute period, yet Hapoel Jerusalem managed to edge previously unbeaten Manresa 90-85 in their rescheduled meeting that took place Thursday to conclude the 2021-22 Basketball Champions regular season.

With this win, Hapoel Jerusalem finished second in Group B and is scheduled to face Prometey in the play-ins of the competition later in January with homecourt advantage. Pinar Karsiyaka, also a Group B play-in contestant, will fight for a ticket to the Round of 16 against Tenerife.

Suleiman Braimoh was the leading scorer for Yotam Halperin’s squad with 23 points and six rebounds, while Retin Obasohan posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 assists for the Israeli side. Adam Ariel added up to the efforts with 15 points and six boards. Hapoel managed to turn the momentum in its favour in the overtime, and outran their hosts 12-7 to end the regular season with a 3-3 record.

Manresa, already qualified for the Round of 16, picked up 22 points by Sylvain Francisco, and Luke Maye added 11 points. They held a 4-0 record prior to Thursday’s meeting in Group B, and they remain at the top spot.
