Vassilis Spanoulis has agreed to a deal to take on the head coach position of Greek side Peristeri, according to Eurohoops sources.

Spanoulis, 39, who announced his retirement on June 26, 2021, served as the head coach of the U18 Next Generation Select Team in the recent ANGT in Belgrade.

Promitheas Patras was also among the suitors to sign Spanoulis as their head coach, though ultimately he will remain Athens-bound.

As previously reported, Spanoulis wanted to start his journey as a head coach by taking cautious steps and has been negotiating with Peristeri on the terms of an upcoming deal, which should include a European presence and a minimum budget of at least around 1.5 million euros in order to create a competitive roster.

The deal is soon expected to become official and Spanoulis will be joined on the Peristeri bench by Dusan Vukcevic as an assistant coach and Georgios Tsiaras as a team manager.

As far as planning for next season is concerned, Spanoulis and Peristeri target former Olympiacos big Octavius Ellis, plus Stefan Moody, Jeremy Kelly, Dimitris Agravanis, and Lefteris Bochoridis if he is not on Panathinaikos’ plans.
