Vassilis Spanoulis on his new coaching chapter: “I like to set new goals in my life”

After retiring from a legendary playing career in which he established himself as Olympiacos’ best player ever, Vassilis Spanoulis started a new basketball adventure on Peristeri’s bench. In its first Basketball Champions League game, the Greek coach’s team won 86-70 against Bnei Herzliya.

In the first episode of the 2022-23 Basketball Champions League Diaries series (which saw great insights on elements like Chima Moneke in 2021-22), Vassilis Spanoulis spoke about what brought him to this new coaching chapter with Peristeri.

“I am a person who pathologically loves basketball. Taking into consideration my character and the way I love basketball, I think that it suits me more to be on the court, having a role inside there, rather than being in the stands or working from another position”, he said.

“I think the role of a coach was as close to who I was as a player. I don’t think that I would do anything if I wasn’t ready. Everybody knows me. If I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it well”, the new Peristeri’s head coach added.
