Luca Banchi replaced Lassi Tuovi in SIG Strasbourg

The SIG Strasbourg and coach Lassi Tuovi have parted ways after a slow start of the season with Italian coach Luca Banchi taking over. The French team has only one victory in the national championship (1-7), while a bit better in the Basketball Champions League (2-1).

The 57-years old Banchi who has a long coaching experience recently qualified for the FIBA World Cup with the Latvian national team.

As he said: “I am very honored to associate my name with such a prestigious organization as SIG Strasbourg. I am aware of the need to give a new impetus to the team in such a delicate period. I will put all possible efforts and experience to restore the club to the level that we all know it is. I look forward to sharing the enthusiasm of the SIG Strasbourg supporters and helping the team to be competitive in order to achieve the best possible results.”

After the departure of Vincent Collet, we took the risk of trusting Lassi Tuovi for his first experience as head coach and the first two seasons were very satisfactory in terms of results. Unfortunately, the results of the start of the season do not correspond to the expectations of the club or those of the coach. Therefore, we have taken the decision, by mutual agreement, to stop our collaboration in the interest of the club. I thank him for his investment and wish him the best for the rest of his career”, said Nicola Alberani, the sports director of Strasbourg, about Tuovi.

SIG Strasbourg and the city of Strasbourg will always have a special place in my heart. I want to thank above all the club, the President, and all the employees, but also the players and the staff with whom I worked and of course our fantastic supporters for the love and support they gave me. I am very proud of what we have achieved in France and the Basketball Champions League since 2018. No matter where life takes me next, I will never forget that it was SIG Strasbourg that took me in. I want to wish the best for the club in the future and I’m sure we’ll see each other again .” added Lassi Tuovi.
