AEK signs former NBA player Greg Brown III

Before the game between AEK and VEF Riga for the Basketball Champions League, the signing of Greg Brown III was announced.

The 24-year-old American, who plays both forward positions, signed a contract with the Greeks until the end of the current season and is expected to replace Antonis Arms, who did not play at all against the Latvian team.

Brown previously played in the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers for two seasons (2021–23) and the Dallas Mavericks (2023–24), averaging 3.8 points (61.6% free throws, 42.4% field goals, and 29.6% from three-point range) and 2.3 rebounds in 70 games. Last season, he played for the Calgary Surge in Canada.

AEK also announced his signing.

Biography

Greg Brown was born on September 1, 2001, in Dallas, Texas, and, at 2.01m tall, plays as a forward. He attended Vandegrift High School in Austin, where in his final season he averaged 26.1 points, 13.2 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, and 2.1 assists per game, leading his team to a 33–3 record and the quarterfinals of the 6A regionals. For his performances, he was named Texas Player of the Year and participated in the McDonald’s All-American Game.

In 2020, he joined the University of Texas, where in his sole NCAA season he averaged 9.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game, starting 24 of 26 games.

His professional career began in the NBA, being selected 43rd overall in the 2021 Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans and immediately traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. He played for the Blazers for two seasons (2021–2023), making his NBA debut on October 23, 2021, against the Phoenix Suns. In the 2021–22 season, he averaged 4.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 48 games, with a career-high 17 points against the Detroit Pistons on March 21, 2022. The next season (2022–23), he played 16 games with averages of 1.8 points and 1.2 rebounds and also played in the NBA G League for the Ontario Clippers, averaging 12.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.

In 2023, Brown signed a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks, recording 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 6 NBA appearances, and also played for the Texas Legends (the Mavericks’ G League affiliate), standing out with 10.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game.
