UCAM Murcia has announced it will take legal action against guard David DeJulius after accusing the American of unilaterally backing out of a recently signed contract extension.
The Spanish club released an official statement, claiming that DeJulius agreed to extend his stay through the end of the 2027–28 season in March, only to later inform the club that he no longer intended to honor the deal.
“In light of the recent reports published by various media outlets, UCAM Murcia Club Baloncesto wishes to clarify that on March 6, the club and player David M. DeJulius reached an agreement extending the contract between the parties until the end of the 2027–28 season.
Subsequently, only a few months after signing the agreement, the player informed the club of his intention not to fulfill the contract, a request that in no way complies with the terms of the agreement signed by both parties.
Given this unilateral decision communicated by the player, and the damage it would cause to UCAM Murcia CB and its sporting project if carried out, the club has been forced to initiate the appropriate legal proceedings to protect its rights and legitimate interests before both FIBA and the competent judicial authorities.”
DeJulius was one of the standout guards in Liga Endesa last season, averaging 17.7 points and 4.3 assists while shooting over 50 percent from two-point range and nearly 38 percent from three. Before joining Murcia in the summer of 2025, the American guard played for Bursaspor and also spent part of the 2024–25 campaign with Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Murcia believes DeJulius’ breakout season sparked interest from other clubs but maintains he is contractually bound to the team. The case will now be decided through legal proceedings before FIBA and the relevant judicial authorities.
