Giorgos Tsalmouris is on the verge of returning to AEK, with the Greek forward/center having reached an agreement with the club for the 2026-27 season.
The move will strengthen the Greek contingent on AEK’s roster, an important factor in the Stoiximan GBL, where teams are required to have at least six available domestic players for every game.
The 30-year-old big man is expected to add depth to AEK’s frontcourt after beginning preseason preparations with Armani Milan as a reserve player. His return to the Athens club comes seven years after his previous spell there.
Tsalmouris spent four seasons with AEK between 2015 and the summer of 2019, with the exception of the 2017-18 campaign, when he played for Kolossos Rhodes on loan. During his time with AEK, he was part of the team that won the FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Rio de Janeiro in 2019.
Last season, Tsalmouris played for Panionios, averaging 9.6 points and 3.7 rebounds in 24 Stoiximan GBL appearances, while playing 21.4 minutes per game. He shot 70.5 percent from the free-throw line, 51.3 percent from two-point range and 27.2 percent from three-point territory.
He also featured in 15 EuroCup games, posting averages of 11.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 21.9 minutes per game. His shooting percentages in the competition were 70.6 percent from the free-throw line, 45.5 percent on two-point attempts and 35.7 percent from beyond the arc.
With his experience and ability to contribute both inside and on the perimeter, Tsalmouris is set to provide AEK with another option in the frontcourt while returning to the club where he spent a significant part of his early professional career.
