The next World Cup getting early check-in confirmations extended to Karl-Anthony Towns.

“This summer, I want to go and play with the Dominican team,” he revealed his intention to represent the Dominican Republic in the World Cup in a recent visit to The Ringer NBA Show.

Towns, 27, emerged in the senior national team of the Dominican Republic at 16, three years before being selected first overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2015 NBA draft, after one NCAA year with Kentucky. International experience included the 2013 FIBA Americas and 2012 Centrobasket, apart from the 2012 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Venezuela. Ten years forward, potentially returning would provide a massive boost to the Dominicans.

The Dominican Republic is heading to this summer’s tournament for a fourth bid in the World Cup and the third in a row since 2014. The 2023 FIBA World Cup will be hosted in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia, from 25 August to 10 September 2023. An extensive list of NBA stars from Team USA to more participating national teams are expected to display their talents in Asia.

KAT missed a large chunk of his eighth NBA campaign with the Wolves due to a calf injury. Back in action last week, he averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game over two winning efforts. In 23 games played through the 2022-23 season, he tallied 20.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks per contest.
