Austin Daye scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Reyer Venezia beat Dinamo Sassari 78 – 65 in Game 5 of the Italian Serie A League Finals to get a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Venezia is now within one victory of the championship title. Game 6, a do-or-die affair for Sassari, will be played in Sardinia Thursday (20/6).
With the score 68 – 64 and three minutes remaining, Venezia made a decisive 7-0 run with five points by Daye. Marquez Haynes (10 points) gave the hosts a double-digit lead, 75 – 64 with one minute to go to seal his team’s win.
Rashawn Thomas posted a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds for Sassari while Marco Spissu scored 17. Stefano Tonut contributed 15 points to Venezia.
