Aside from his 11 years long career in the NBA and Europe (Spain, Italy), some fans might remember him for being the replacement for the acting role of Chewbacca in the Star Wars franchise.

The original actor for the role was Peter Mayhew but he got sick during the filming of the second movie, ‘The Empire Strikes Back’. McNamara got the chance to show his acting skills but it was eventually decided that the footage won’t be used but get re-recorded with Mayhew.
