Washington Wizards owner Ted Leonsis is quite positive that the NBA, along with other professional American leagues, will resume its currently suspended season. It will just have to happen behind closed doors.

“I believe all three teams will play,” Leonsis to CNN, per the Washington Post, referring also to the WNBA team Washington Mystics plus the hockey team Washington Capitals. Leonsis is the owner of these two franchises, apart from the Wizards. “We will let the NBA and NHL try to finish some or all of the regular season and then go into the playoffs. We just won’t be doing it with fans. We’re focused on the health and safety for our fans and also our players.”

The NBA has been examining various scenarios regarding the resumption of the season. The discussion, thus far, is about holding all remaining games plus the playoffs in a single location so that that maximum possible health measures will be guaranteed.

“We have a lot of time to do it,” Leonsis said. “There really isn’t the stress of when would a next season start, and so we get a chance to do our planning and create the protocols that really will maximize the safety for our players.”

Leonsis wants to see the sports season concluded and champions emerging when all is said and done. “You’d like to be able to give the championship, and I think that’ll happen also in the NBA. It’s sad right now, but we’ll get through it.”

On the other side of the USA, coronavirus measures seem to be easing enough for NBA teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers plus the Golden State Warriors to resume at least some sports activities. On Monday, California Governor Gavin Newsom said that he could see pro sports in the state return in early June, naturally in empty arenas.
