Anthony Davis plans to opt-out of his contract and re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, per The Athletic. He was keen on remaining with his current team following the conclusion of the 2020 NBA playoffs.

“I had a great time in L.A. this first year,” he said regarding his future after capturing the NBA championship in the Orlando bubble, “This has been nothing but joy, nothing but amazement. Over the next couple of months, we’ll figure it out. I mean, I’m not 100 percent sure, but that’s why my agent [Rich Paul] is who he is, and we’ll discuss it and figure it out.”

Davis, 27, joined the Lakers prior to the 2019-20 campaign after seven seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans. He averaged 27.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.2 steals per postseason contest, 26.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, and 1.5 steals per regular-season appearance.

His current contract includes a $28.7M player option for the 2020-21 season. As a free agent after potentially opting-out, he is expected to sign a multiyear contract.
