Giannis not taking Trae Young’s shimmy personally: “He’s just having fun”

Trae Young was the star of Game 1 in the Eastern Finals between the Atlanta Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks and he seemed to be enjoying the game a lot.

During the third quarter, Young left Bucks guard Jrue Holiday in the dust behind with a left-to-right crossover, to drain a wide-open three. Right before he released the ball, Young decided to throw in a shimmy.

“I had a lot of time. I was kind of tired, a little bit. So I got a little second to get a deep breath and knock it down”, said Young after the game.

At the next timeout break following Young’s wide-open shot, two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo was seen repeating Young’s shimmy move on the Bucks bench, looking to motivate his teammates on the defensive end.

However, after the game, Giannis said he did not take the shimmy personally while speaking to the media.

“He’s just having fun. He’s enjoying the game,” Antetokounmpo said. “Obviously I wouldn’t want him to make the shot, but he’s having fun. He’s enjoying the game. We’re going to do the same as a team. We’re going to have fun. We’re going to enjoy the game. There’s going to be times that Bryn [Forbes] or Jrue might shimmy or whatever the case might be. It’s just part of the game. It’s nothing. You can’t take that personally.”

“He’s a great player,” Antetokounmpo added on Young, who erupted with 48 points in Game 1. “We’ve got to make it as tough as possible for him, be physical with him. We don’t want to send him to the free-throw line. We just got to make it, from the first minute to the last minute, tough.”
