After parting ways with his previous representative, Los Angeles Lakers star guard Russell Westbrook is joining forces with agent Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports, the player told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Earlier in July, Westbrook split with longtime agent Thad Foucher of Wasserman after working with him since he turned pro in 2008. In a statement, Foucher mentioned that “… unfortunately there are irreconcilable differences on his [Westbrook] best path to follow”

Westbrook hired Schwartz and became an Excel Sports client amid reports regarding his future with the Los Angeles Lakers and while he’s subject to various trade rumors. Throughout the free agency, the former MVP and nine-time All-Star player has been linked with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Utah Jazz and the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers.

It was reported that the Timberwolves won’t likely be a destination for Westbrook and that currently, talks between Pacers and Lakers regarding a Westbrook trade are “dead.”

In 2021-22, Westbrook averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists.
