Washington Wizards crushed Minnesota Timberwolves 142-127 at Capital One Arena, with a career-high 41 points from Kristaps Porzingins.
The Latvian big man got to his career-best against three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, which amplifies his tremendous performance against the Timberwolves.
After the game, he was the man of the hour. His teammates doused him with bottled water during the big celebration in the locker room.
“Rui had a cheeky smile, and I knew something is going to happen. As soon as I got the belt it was a shower, and everybody was happy for me. That’s a good feeling“, Porzingis said.
He knew early on that he might break his old record of 40 points, of which he was very aware.
“Once I saw that ball go in, I mean I was in a good rhythm. My teammates just kept finding me pretty open throughout the game. I just knocked them down“, Porzingis added.
Kyla Kuzma heaped praise on the Latvian center.
“He played very aggressively and he had it from the jump. He understood his assignment, knowing that Rudy was always gonna help defensively. He just took advantage, once the talented player like KP gets off, it’s hard to turn his water off“, Kuzma noted.
