Kevin Garnett in awe of Wembanyama: “He has the ‘it factor’ to lead a team”

The Victor Wembanyama show in the NBA has begun and after only five games the 19-year-old center dropped 38 points on Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns.

Talking about the impact the former Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 player he’s having, Kevin Garnett had nothing but high praise for the French talent.

“When I saw him shooting the three and following up with that dunk, I couldn’t believe it. Ain’t seen that since Dominique [Wilkins]”, he first commented on last year’s spectacular play in the LNB against AS Monaco.

Garnett compared him to greats like David Robinson and Tim Duncan.

When you saw David Robinson the first time, you saw it. You didn’t know what you were looking for, but you saw it. And then you saw Tim Duncan, same. He has the ‘it factor’. He’s a top-tier scorer, he got it to where he can lead a team,” KG said, talking during the Ticket and The Truth podcast with Paul Pierce.

Hall of Famer since 2020, Garnett believes Wemby has improved since getting drafted by the Spurs.

Now, it’s about his IQ and his education. We know what he looks like in another league, and he’s looking different with the knowledge that he’s getting from San Antonio. You can see the development, how much he’s grown in a summer. He looks not only stronger, but smarter.

Another thing that sets the 7 feet 4 inches tall French prodigy apart is his movement, with Luka Doncic saying ‘he moves like a point guard’.

Yao Ming was moving like a big oak tree, Shaq was roving through. Walking through like an oak tree, bumping into s**t. I wanna see Wemby in a salsa competition, see his bachata. He’s light on his feet,” Kevin Garnett commented in his style.
