The NBA and FIBA believe Germany could become one of the biggest beneficiaries of the proposed NBA Europe project, WELT reports.
According to data from The Sports Consultancy, the new league could generate approximately $7 billion in total revenue in Germany between 2027 and 2036 through operations in Berlin and Munich, the two cities identified by the NBA as its primary targets in the country.
The projections include income from ticket sales, merchandise, media rights, tourism, hotels and local businesses connected to game-day activity.
The report also estimates that NBA Europe could contribute around $2.8 billion to Germany’s GDP and help support nearly 1,000 full-time jobs annually.
NBA Europe managing director George Aivazoglou recently described European basketball as the sport’s biggest untapped opportunity, noting that basketball currently accounts for less than 0.5% of Europe’s $50 billion sports industry.
The competition is expected to launch in 2027, with Berlin and Munich viewed as leading candidates to host German franchises.
