Kristaps Porzingis has agreed to a two-year, $40 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, as reported by ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania on Monday.
Confirming his future in San Francisco just before the free agency window opens, the agreement includes a second-year player option. It represents a significant pay cut for the Latvian big, after having earned between $27 million and $36 million annually over the past seven seasons. The center accepted this financial adjustment following limited availability, appearing in just 42 and 32 games over the last two years due to various health setbacks.
When healthy, the 2.18-meter center remains an elite asset capable of scoring at all three levels and protecting the rim. Splitting last season between the Atlanta Hawks and the Warriors, the Liepaja native averaged 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per contest across 32 games. His presence dramatically altered team efficiency, elevating Golden State by 6.4 points per 100 possessions and Atlanta by 7.8 points per 100 possessions.

Securing the versatile defender provides the front office crucial salary flexibility as they navigate complex cap constraints for the 2026–27 season. Golden State is currently targeting LeBron James to strengthen their championship bid, a plan facilitated by Draymond Green declining his $27.7 million player option.
Over a unique 10-season NBA career that includes stints with the New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards, and a 2024 championship run with the Boston Celtics, Porzingis holds career regular-season averages of 19.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game.
