Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. expressed a strong desire to retain unrestricted free agent Kristaps Porzingis this offseason. The versatile Latvian big might be looking at a potential return to the Bay Area on a short-term deal that would significantly reduce his previous salary. The 45-year-old executive emphasized the immense value of the center to the organization’s immediate future during a press conference on Wednesday.

“I’ve had conversations with kind of all of our free agents,” Dunleavy said. “Their representatives. I think we’re in a good place with all of them.”

“As far as Draymond and KP, Draymond has the player option, but we’re in communication with his group. Then same thing with KP. Both guys, I think, we value, we want here, and we see them as a kind of piece of the puzzle next season,” he added.

During his initial 15-game stretch with the franchise, Porzingis proved his worth by averaging 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 0.6 steals per game.

There is growing momentum within the organization toward securing the native of Liepaja on a team-friendly contract, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater. This specific financial adjustment represents a preferred path for the front office as they manage looming luxury tax constraints.

Dunleavy remains focused on building a deep roster that can successfully compete in the Western Conference. By keeping the veteran center alongside the established core, he aims to maintain frontcourt stability while preserving long-term asset flexibility.
