Reigning EuroLeague Best Defender Alpha Diallo is leaving Europe for the NBA.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Diallo has agreed to a one-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $1.4 million with the Denver Nuggets.
The 29-year-old forward is coming off the best season of his career with AS Monaco, averaging 11.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 steals in 42 EuroLeague games, while earning both the EuroLeague Best Defender award and the competition’s steals title.
Diallo spent five seasons with Monaco after beginning his professional career at Lavrio in Greece. During his time in the Principality, he won three French League championships, two French Cups, a League Cup and a French Super Cup, while helping Monaco establish itself as one of Europe’s elite clubs.
Despite going undrafted in 2020 after four seasons at Providence, Diallo has now earned his first NBA opportunity with the Denver Nuggets, who are looking to strengthen their roster around Nikola Jokic as they pursue another championship.
