Dennis Schroder expressed strong optimism regarding his recent trade to the Charlotte Hornets, viewing the transition as a superior opportunity for his career.

Speaking with Braunschweiger Zeitung during a Braunschweig Lions game on Sunday, the German national team captain revealed he had advance knowledge of the move. “I’ve known for a month. I think it’s a better situation for me from a sporting perspective,” he stated in an interview published Monday.

The Braunschweig native reflected on his tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers, explaining the tactical difficulty of playing behind star teammates Donovan Mitchell and James Harden. “When you have two legends in your position who bring the ball up the court and play a lot of isolation, then it’s just difficult,” he noted.

Forced to adapt in the shadow of that duo, he described his assignment as ‘an extremely difficult role’. Despite those challenges, he remained satisfied with his stint in Ohio, which culminated in an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, an achievement he described simply as ‘cool’.

With the business side catching up with him once more, this deal marked the 13th time the leader of the senior national team of Germany has relocated during his NBA journey. “The teams are paying for everything. We’re continuing to live just as we did before. The kids are homeschooled. Our family visits two or three times a year. Nothing’s changed,” he explained.

Looking ahead, the veteran expects to thrive under Charlotte head coach Charles Lee. “It’s good for me because I can play there the way I normally play,” he said.

Schroder is also eager to mentor newly drafted compatriots Christian Anderson Jr. and Hannes Steinbach. “For them, it’s obviously a blessing to have someone to chat with,” he remarked, adding that he would have loved to be in that position during his own rookie campaign.
