Klay Thompson was presented by his new team Miami Heat, with whom he appears to have big goals.
Sitting next to his coach Erik Spoelstra, he spoke about the “hunger” he still has for winning at 36 years of age, while he also spoke in the highest terms about Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“I have tasted winning before, honestly there is nothing like it. Even getting there and failing is better than not even having a chance. I am not saying that this will happen, it’s just that the opportunity to win again at a very high level was so attractive to me.
Looking at the roster it seems like I fit very well, if I can find space on the floor and attack from the perimeter. I have very good defenders as help behind me. Especially at this stage of my career I get to play a specific role, my voice will fit with this team and I will try to lead by example.”
On Giannis Antetokounmpo:
“Giannis is one of the best players of all time. A two-time MVP, he is a special talent and I have great respect for what he has accomplished and how he keeps getting better every season. We can both help each other but also the whole team.
I will be opening up spaces for him to attack the basket and I will have a lot of open shots, since both Giannis and Bam (Adebayo) put pressure on defenders when they go to the basket.
It will be fun to see how we fit together, it will be great. We are very versatile, we can defend from 1 to 5 and run in transition. It’s limitless to what we can achieve. I am excited and by coming here, I feel that I can be myself again.”
