The Denver Nuggets are keeping a close eye on free agent forward Cam Whitmore as they look to build a deeper, more athletic squad around their franchise cornerstone, Nikola Jokic.
According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line on Monday, Denver has emerged as a team to watch for the explosive 22-year-old winger. However, the Nuggets may face stiff competition. The Los Angeles Lakers are also interested in securing Whitmore’s services.
With the Joker recently reaffirming his commitment to staying in Denver for the long haul, the front office is under pressure to constantly surround their Serbian superstar with dynamic young talent capable of keeping their championship window wide open.
Whitmore, the 20th draft pick in 2023, would bring the exact type of raw athleticism that could thrive alongside Jokic’s historic playmaking. During his first two seasons in Houston, the forward flashed serious potential, averaging 10.8 points per game. Though an upper-extremity deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder cut his stint short in Washington last season, he tallied 9.2 points per contest, while upping his career total to 119 appearances.
He is now fully healthy and highly motivated to bounce back for the 2026–27 NBA Regular Season. For Denver, adding a hungry player with something to prove is a perfect low-risk gamble. Jokic has made it clear he wants to finish his career in Denver, but he needs a reliable supporting cast to ease the burden. Whitmore could be a high-upside weapon to chase another NBA title.
