Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is primed to spearhead a championship push for the Miami Heat after a major offseason trade. The 31-year-old forward dedicated his first 13 years to the Milwaukee Bucks, anchoring their 2021 title run. Now, a fresh era begins in South Florida.
The Athens native has already been logging hours on his new home floor. “It feels good. Always getting some extra reps on the main court is always nice to me. I’ve played on this court as a member of a different team. To be able to be a member of the Miami Heat is exciting. I can’t wait to have 20,000 fans cheering for us and giving them a show,” he said after a workout.
While navigating the facility on Sunday, he also crossed paths with two-time NBA champion Norris Cole, newly appointed to the Sioux Falls Skyforce staff, welcoming him with an embrace.

Following Monday’s media day, head coach Erik Spoelstra will gather his squad to formally open training camp. Miami begins their exhibition schedule in Quebec City against the Toronto Raptors on October 3. They will finally debut at the Kaseya Center on October 21 for the opener of the 2026–27 Regular Season against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Beyond the upcoming schedule, significant financial decisions will shape the franchise’s trajectory. Giannis holds a $62.78 million player option for the 2027–28 season. Come summer, he can bypass that final year to test unrestricted free agency or opt in to secure his salary. However, a third avenue opens in January 2027, when he becomes eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension.
