Victor Wembanyama has drawn a firm line between his personal brand and sports betting. Speaking at San Antonio Spurs training camp on Thursday, the French phenom addressed corporate sponsors, his native France, and how Texas is becoming a second home.

When asked if he would ever endorse a sports gambling platform, he rejected the idea immediately. “Absolutely not. I will never do that,” said Wemby. “It’s very sad to see some players promote it, in my opinion. Everybody does whatever they want, but without me.”

Financial gain does not dictate his choices. “I refused much more money than I’ve made for things that were not to my values,” he explained. “I want to promote things that have a good impact, have a good influence on the world, with whom I can share messages and values.”

Bringing the Spurs to Paris

Wembanyama also reflected on his summer in France. Several San Antonio teammates traveled across the Atlantic to visit him. This gesture moved the young leader deeply.

Carter Bryant was among the guests. The 22-year-old center noted that his teammate had likely never left the United States. “He’s got to see the Eiffel Tower. He’s got to see, you know, a different culture,” he mentioned.

France remains his ultimate home, but Texas is gaining ground. The connection to San Antonio is not quite at that level yet, but provides a true sense of belonging. “I got the same feeling of home and of being welcome here,” he said. “That’s the biggest feeling I’ve had. It feels like I’ve been welcomed here from day one, even before day one.”
