Turkish center Omer Asik is currently being treated at the Mayo Clinic for Crohn’s disease, as reported by American journalist Daniel Sallerson.

There’s currently no timetable for his return, as New Orleans Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps said.

Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel affliction that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract. While it can occur at any time in a person’s life, it mostly appears between ages 15 to 35.

It’s not a career-ending disease and despite its chronic character, it can go into remission with the appropriate treatment. Larry Nance Jr. is a well-known player who has been battling Crohn’s successfully.
