Mavericks declined Dirk Nowitzki’s option to create cap space

As the New York Times report, the Dallas Mavericks have declined Dirk Nowitzki’s $5 million team option to create additional salary-cap space for their pursuit of free agent center DeAndre Jordan.

Jordan didn’t opt in with the Clippers, leaving a $24.1 million salary for the 2018-19 season and becoming a free agent.

Nowitzki is expected to re-sign with Dallas, probably taking their cap-room exception of $4.4 million for next season. The Mavs now have approximately $27 million in salary-cap space.
