Clint Capela had a great season last year for the Houston Rockets and became a crucial weapon in the Western Conference arms race. In a recent interview, he had with ‘The Athletic,’ the 24-year old center talked about the importance of each game, his roots but also his playing time.

The Swiss big man agreed to a contract extension for five years this summer but he remains humble: “Every minute that I play, I have to earn it,” stated Capela, “Lately I’ve been playing good, so I get more minutes. Even when I don’t play as much, Coach [D’Antoni] gets to give opportunities to other guys out there, so it’s okay. For me, I want to be out on the floor during important games, and the close games. I want to be out with them on the court.

Capela is one of the rising stars in the league, but he’s still aware of his roots. There’s a whole nation of Swiss people supporting him from all over the world.  “It’s good to be an inspiration. I came a long way, so every game I just enjoy it. The grind, being an inspiration for the people back home.”

As Kevin Durant had said about his mother in 2014 that she’s the real MVP, Clint Capela’s mom is also supporting him no matter what, even after his father left their house. “It’s good to have them support you,” Capela says of them. “Even if they’re out there and you don’t see them some days, just showing support and love, watch every game, it means a lot to me.”
