Nowitzki: Doncic and Porzingis bigger and longer then Nash and me

He’s been with the Dallas Mavericks since 1998. Dirk Nowitzki has played alongside a bunch of playmakers since, but few matched up with him like his friend and legendary court general Steve Nash. He launched his career with Nash among his teammates until 2004.

Nash went on playing for the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers before retiring. The German forward is 40 years old and still around, but talking to New York Times compared Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis pairing to his own with the Canadian former player.

“I think they’re going to be great together. They both fit the new style of the NBA so well. Luka is bigger than Nashy, so he can make plays that Nashy could never make. And Zinger is even longer than me and more athletic and shoots it super easy from deep. He’s a good dude, hard worker — he wants to be great. We hope to see that combo in Dallas for a long, long time” he mentioned.

Doncic, 19, is already averaging 20.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists without his new teammate. The 23-year-old Latvian forward/center was recently acquired by the Mavericks via trade but remains sidelined due to the left knee injury he suffered last year.
