Jusuf Nurkic’s previous NBA campaign ended prematurely due to his left leg injury last March. The Portland Trail Blazers held their annual preseason Media Day, but provided no update on the 25-year-old Bosnian’s return, the Oregonian notes. However, newcomer Pau Gasol is hopeful he will be ready for the regular season opener, adds Joe Freeman via Twitter.

The 39-year-old Spaniard big underwent surgery in May to repair a navicular stress fracture in his left foot. Missed the 2019 FIBA World Cup as a result, but signed with the Blazers in late July. His presence and experience adds depth to Terry Stotts’ squad, especially needed as long as Nurkic remains out.

On his part, the Bosnian center pointed out, “I am exactly where they want me to be. So I think everything is good” commenting on the lengthy rehab after his gruesome injury. “I am going to be back when I’m back” he added showing calm in a challenging situation.
