The next step for Greek prospect Alexandros Samodurov remains a major storyline as he considers his developmental options.

According to ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla, the versatile big is possibly linked to North Carolina.

After declaring for the 2026 NBA Draft while retaining his NCAA eligibility, the 6-foot-11 power forward and center has emerged as an interesting target during the offseason. However, he has not yet officially committed to play under the newly appointed head coach, Michael Malone.

If the pairing materializes, 21-year-old Samodurov could join fellow countryman Neoklis Avdalas, the former Virginia Tech starter, who has committed to the Tar Heels.

On the court, Samodurov offers a highly coveted skill set for the evolving collegiate landscape. He is far from a traditional stationary post piece, pairing true mobility with perimeter stretch ability and reliable rim protection. This past summer, his elite talent popped on the international stage during EuroBasket 2025, where he logged vital rotation minutes for Greece. Alongside NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, he earned a bronze medal in his debut with the senior national team.

While his physical frame is still developing, his baseline of high-level European experience is substantial, highlighted by 22 EuroLeague appearances, including 13 in the 2025-26 edition of the top-tier continental competition. Under a long-term six-year contract signed with Panathinaikos Aktor in 2022, he has been part of a successful veteran roster. Despite limited minutes in a crowded frontcourt, the Thessaloniki native has already captured several titles across continental and domestic competitions.
