Following Game 2 of the best-of-five championship series in the Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi Playoffs 2026 against Fenerbahce Beko, Besiktas Gain’s Canberk Kus revealed that his wife and her companions were physically assaulted at Istanbul’s Ulker Sports Arena on Monday.

The 29-year-old forward stated they ‘were victims of barbaric vandalism and physical assault, opposed to the unifying spirit of sports’, emphasizing that ‘scores change, championships come and go’, but ‘this mentality that targets human life, property, and safety has no place in the world of sports’. Refusing to let the incident pass, he stressed a ‘societal duty’ to address ‘the product of an organized hatred’.

Kus confirmed that ‘the necessary legal process has been officially initiated against those responsible for carrying out the attack and causing the security lapse’.

“I have full confidence that our security forces and judicial authorities will bring the perpetrator(s) to justice as soon as possible, based on the evidence and camera recordings,” he noted, regarding potential action.

With Besiktas and Fener tied at 1-1, Game 3 is scheduled on Wednesday, with the series switching to Sinan Erdem Dome.
