Overcoming a sluggish start and countering comeback bids throughout the second half, ratiopharm Ulm secured the win, 93-81, versus ALBA Berlin Friday.

Bruno Caboclo, the 20th overall pick of the 2014 NBA draft, poured a game-high 22 points paving the way for the 2-1 lead in the Quarterfinals series of Germany’s easyCredit BBL Playoffs. The Brazilian power forward connected 10/11 field goals. Austrian Thomas Klepeisz added 19 more points.

On the losing end of Game 3, Jaleen Smith scored 17 points and Johannes Thiemann finished with 16 points. The team coached by Israel Gonzalez was limited to 9/32 from beyond the arc. Tim Schneider was sidelined alongside Marcus Eriksson (foot) and Yovel Zoosman (knee).

The third straight win for the away team in the best-of-five series handed Anton Gavel’s side a 2-1 lead with Game 4 coming up at home next Wednesday. The back-to-back-to-back defending champions will be dealing with elimination in Ulm and hoping to instead force a Game 5 to be played in Berlin next Friday.

Bonn cruises to a 2-0 lead

Coming off the Basketball Champions League triumph, Telekom Baskets Bonn rolled over Niners Chemnitz, 95-78, in soldout Telekom Dome, to go up 2-0 in the series. Javontae Hawkins set a new personal best for the 2022-23 season with 24 points and T.J. Shorts II combined 19 points with nine assists. Switching to the opposite venue, Game 3 will take place on Monday.

Additional Quarterfinals action expands to FC Bayern Munich and MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg on track to complete a three-game sweep over BG Gottingen and EWE Baskets Oldenburg, respectively, on Sunday.
