Former Michigan State standout Cassius Winston dropping a couple of late free throws made the difference for FC Bayern Munich in the 87-85 victory versus BG Gottingen in easyCredit BBL Playoffs action Thursday.

Winston, 25, shaped a team-high 13 points with the game-winning free throws. Nick Weiler-Babb followed with 12 points in Game 2 of the best-of-five series. Paul Zipser was a late scratch joining Othello Hunter (back), Vladimir Lucic (left hand), Augustine Rubit (Achilles), and Zan Mark Sisko (personal) on the list of unavailable players.

Despite mishandling a double-digit advantage, Andrea Trinchieri’s went up to 2-0 and is now one win from clinching a berth in the Semifinals. Switching from Audi Dome to Goettingen Arena, Game 3 will be held Sunday. The Munich outfit, a five-time domestic champion, is looking to end a four-year drought countering ALBA Berlin capturing the BBL title the last three seasons.

Leading the charge for the visitors guided by Roel Moors, Geno Crandall poured in 28 points, a new personal best for the 2022-23 season.

Earlier, MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg held on for the 73-72 victory and a 2-0 lead against EWE Baskets Oldenburg. Top performer, Yorman Polas Bartolo posted a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double. With the opportunity to complete a three-game sweep at home, Game 3 follows Sunday.

Elsewhere in the Quarterfinals best-of-five series, ALBA is tied with ratiopharm Ulm at 1-1. Reigning Basketball Champions League champion Telekom Baskets Bonn is up 1-0 over Niners Chemnitz. Both series will continue tomorrow, Friday.
