Zenit St. Petersburg defeated CSKA Moscow 100 – 73 and celebrated its reestablishment of the Kondrashin and Belov Cup by winning the tournament. It was the first of the many 2021-22 matchups between the teams since they will meet each other in both EuroLeague and VTB.

Alex Poythress scored a game-high 22 points to lead the efforts of Zenit for a second straight night after the game vs. Parma. Jordan Mickey contributed 15 points, Billy Baron had 12 points plus eight assists and Jordan Loyd dropped 12 points.

“The first preseason games were tough,” Loyd said. “Obviously we had to learn how to play, build chemistry and everything. But today we had a good showing defensively. We still didn’t rebound the ball as we wanted to but we really played as a team and that showed in the outcome.”

Iffe Lundberg (12 points), Will Clyburn (11 points) and Nikola Milutinov (10 points) scored in double figures for CSKA.

Zenit concluded this prep competition with three wins in a row and will take its preparation to Cyprus and the International Tournament where CSKA will also participate along with Olympiacos Piraeus.

In Greece, Panathinaikos Athens took a tough 78 – 76 win over Greek League returnee Apollon Patras to stay undefeated in preseason. Leonidas Kaselakis scored the winning free throws with five seconds to play in what was a thrilling game from start to finish.

Ioannis Papapetrou and Daryl Macon led Panathinaikos in scoring with 15 points apiece while Okaro White had 14 points and Howard Sant-Roos 11. Orlando Coleman posted 19 points and Cedric Barfield finished with 14 points for Apollon.
