Crvena Zvezda keeps Maik Zirbes for the rest of the season

Crvena Zvezda mts announced Monday that Maik Zirbes will continue as a part of the squad until the end of the 2021-22 season.

Zirbes, 32, coming off a run at Shabab Al Ahli located in Dubai became a late offseason addition to the Serbian giant in September. He had penned a short-term contract with an option for the remainder of the season.

In his previous two stints at Crvena Zvezda stretching through three seasons, the German center captured three ABA League championships, the Serbian League title twice, and one Serbian Cup. So far in this season, he produced 4.1 points and 1.8 rebounds per Turkish Airlines EuroLeague contest, and 7.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per AdmiralBet ABA League game.

The team coached by Dejan Radonjic sits 14th in the EuroLeague standings at 8-12, a couple of games outside the seeds leading to the Playoffs. Next up, a couple of home contests opposite AX Armani Exchange Milan and AS Monaco, in Regular Season Round 24 and 25, Tuesday and Thursday respectively. The 15-1 ABA record leads the league, a couple of games over second-placed Partizan NIS.

Besides Crvena Zvezda, Zirbes has logged EuroLeague appearances with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Brose Bamberg making out a total of 109 games played in Europe’s premier club continental competition. As a member of Bamberg, FC Bayern Munich, and Cedevita Olimpija, he competed in the 7DAYS EuroCup for a total of 54 appearances. In addition, he has represented Germany at the international level in 35 official fixtures.
