ATHENS — Giannis Antetokounmpo was courtside at a remarkably noisy Telekom Center Athens on Sunday for the championship game of the 2026 EuroLeague Final Four Athens, presented by Etihad.
The 31-year-old Greek superstar took his seat as an official guest of the EuroLeague to witness the continental clash between Olympiacos and Real Madrid.
The high-profile appearance officially confirmed travel plans that had been broken days earlier by Eurohoops, generating significant buzz among the local crowd and international media alike.
His arrival in the loud, energetic atmosphere of the arena comes during a particularly complicated NBA offseason for the point forward. The Athens native has been facing rampant speculation regarding a potential blockbuster trade away from the Milwaukee Bucks over recent months. Amid uncertainty in North America, the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player in 2019 and 2020 opted to return to his roots to experience the unique intensity of the EuroLeague.
The event marked his second time attending a championship game of Europe’s premier club competition. The Greek Freak was previously spotted in attendance at the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final 2024 in Berlin, a historic night where Panathinaikos captured the trophy against Real Madrid. His presence in the Final 2026 further cements his ongoing connection to the European game.
“The fans have seen me play here,” he said to EuroLeague TV, when asked if he might play in Europe. “I’ve played many times on this floor with the national team. Maybe one day it’s gonna happen, but right now my focus is to play in the NBA for as many years as I can”.
A former NBA champion with the Bucks as the Finals MVP in 2021, navigated an injury-plagued 13th year with the Wisconsin franchise, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game over 36 appearances.
