Vassilis Spanoulis and Olympiacos have a deal for a new one-year contract. After meeting with Olympiacos’ owner, Aggelopoulos brothers, Spanoulis decided to stay part of the Reds until 2019.

Spanoulis signed his first contract with Olympiacos back in 2010 and he became synonymous with the club after leaving Panathinaikos and winning back-to-back EuroLeague titles in 2012 and 2013.

The talks between Spanoulis and Olympiacos’ management was centered not only on his contract, but also on the future of the team. That’s why the meeting lasted for 3,5 hours.

It was initially expected that 36 years old Spanoulis and Olympiacos will agree on a two-year deal, however both sides decided to take the one year route.

As he said: “There was no other way, after all of our successes and failures, to stay here in order to be back on the top. I want to thank our presidents for what they are doing for the club. I will do my best to pay them back. We all fight for the good of Olympiacos. We are a family after all those years. I will obey the coach, like I did constantly in my career. I don’t care about what anyone says. I am soldier of Olympiacos, not a star”.
