Plaza on Ayon and Zubkov injuries: “Maybe my staff will need to play some minutes”

Mexican center Gustavo Ayon and Russian power forward Andrey Zubkov were injured during the game in Berlin and Zenit St. Petersburg coach Joan Plaza didn’t hide his disappointment not only for the defeat from Alba.

Plaza admitted in the press conference that those injuries didn’t decide anything, but will be an issue for his team: “As you see, I didn’t say anything about Ayon or even about Andrey Zubkov. Ayon has a broken nose and Zubkov has a leg injury. But I didn’t say anything. If you don’t ask me, I say nothing because we lost because we are worse and not for these injuries. We will see what the doctors say tomorrow about Ayon and Zubkov. Of course, they are a big problem for us in the near future”.

Things are not going to get easy any time soon for Zenit. “We play against easy teams like CSKA next Sunday and Barcelona next Thursday”, joked Plaza. “We’ll see, maybe my staff will need to play some minutes. Life is life, I don’t want to cry about injuries, about these situations that affect most of the teams. Of course, for us, as a new team in this competition, it’s especially bad”.
