Vassilis Xanthopoulos published a statement in which he addressed pending salaries he has yet to receive from his former team, AEK Athens, including a BCL championship bonus for the 2018 title.

His statement reads:

“In my 18 years as a professional athlete, sadly I am forced to make such a statement for the first time.

I have publicly mentioned multiple times that I spent two beautiful and successful seasons with AEK. Unfortunately, money owed from AEK places me in an impossible situation. I am still due the FIBA Basketball Champions League title bonus from 2018, my contract ended in June and I haven’t received any owed money since. My agent and I have attempted to reach the front office many times willing to even settle but failed to achieve any useful result. They don’t even answer my calls!

Accordingly, I am forced to resort to the courts to claim the money I have worked for.”

There has not been an official statement from the team’s side yet, and it looks like the two sides will settle their financial issues in court.
