Italian Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora said he can’t see any sports activity in the country taking place in the following month and that the suspension measures will be extended to include practices as well.

“Resuming games on May 3 is unrealistic. Tomorrow (30/3), I will propose to extend the suspension of sports competitions of all levels and throughout April. And I will extend the measure to practices, an area in which we hadn’t intervened because there was still the possibility of the Olympic Games,” Spadafora said to newspaper La Reppublica, per Calcio Mercato.

Virtus Bologna had temporarily resumed individual practices for its players in the gym on March 21 before halting the training four days afterward.

While the Italian Basketball Federation had hoped to potentially restart the season at some point, the ever-worsening situation with the coronavirus in Italy may lead towards a complete direction shift. Italian Federation Honorary President Dino Meneghin said that the season “will be canceled if needed.”

Deaths from coronavirus in Italy have passed the 10,000-mark. As of Sunday (29/3), the death toll reached a number of 10,023 people while the overall number of confirmed cases has been 92,472.
