Torino took down Venezia in the Italian Cup

Umana Reyer Venezia tried to fix their slow start but Fiat Torino avoided the comeback and advanced to the Italian Cup semifinals by defeating the reigning league champions 72 – 60.

Torino destroyed Venezia in the first quarter 21 – 4 with an amazing defensive performance. The Italian champs slightly reduced the deficit in the next two quarters (60 – 46) before making a competitive case again.

Mitchell Watt (19 points and 11 rebounds) and Venezia reduced the deficit to 65 – 60 (36′) but Torino managed to keep the lead.

Diante Garrett led Torino in scoring with 17 points (5-of-19 shooting) while Deron Washington added 11 and 7 boards.

In the other quarterfinal of the day, Vanoli Cremona took down Sidigas Avellino 89 – 82 in overtime. Jason Rich’s 30 points and Kyrylo Fesenko’s monster double (19p. 19 r.) weren’t enough.
