Sassari crowned Italian Supercup champion in dramatic game vs. Venezia

Dinamo Sassari completely gave up a 21-point lead against Reyer Venezia in the 2019 Italian SuperCup Final before ultimately winning  83 – 80 in overtime to claim the title for the first time since 2014.

Venezia had come back from 45 – 24 deficit to lead 67 – 69 with one minute remaining in regulation following a 3-pointer by Ariel Filloy. Jamel McLean scored the bucket that sent the game to the extra period.

With Venezia up 71 – 74, Michelle Vitali hit a pair of 3-pointers for Sassari to grab an 81 – 78 lead with only seconds left. The Sardinian side remained ahead for the remainder of the game.

Curtis Jerrels led Sassari with 19 points and five rebounds. Pierre scored 14 and McLean 13.

Jeremy Chappell (19 points) and Mike Bramos (15 points, seven rebounds) were Venezia’s top contributors.

Earlier, Brindisi beat Cremona 87 – 84 in the third-place match.

The Italian SuperCup semifinal results were as follows:

Sassari – Cremona 101 – 94

Venezia – Brindisi 78 – 73
