French point guard Theo Maledon has submitted paperwork to the league office to make himself eligible for the 2020 NBA draft, he told ESPN.

“I am at my parents’ house in Lyon right now. It has been very difficult being away from practice, games, and my teammates. I am trying to make the most of it, but not having real basketball is very difficult. Once the situation is better and I am allowed to come to the U.S., I will train there. The past two summers I spent several weeks in the U.S. and can’t wait to come back. Right now, I am working out twice per day at home. Since my Mom is a physiotherapist, she is able to monitor the program ASVEL provided and even stretch me out. I’m also watching a lot of video of NBA point guards in various game situations. Between Synergy and NBATV I am spending a lot of time learning and enjoying,” Maledon added.

The 18-year-old has been averaging 7.1 points and 2.3 assists in 17 minutes for ASVEL in EuroLeague and the French League. He is a leading candidate to win the Euroleague Rising Star award.
