Isaiah Thomas will be part of the USA Basketball selection for the FIBA AmeriCup qualifying games in Puerto Rico that tip-off this week and hopes to use this experience to return to NBA action “as soon as possible”.

“This allows me to compete against other professionals, represent my country at the same time—which is an honor and a privilege—and ultimately show NBA teams that I’m back to myself and I’m 100 percent healthy. That’s why I chose to come here,” he said of representing the United States. “When Team USA brought it to me, it was a no-brainer”, said Thomas to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press. “My ultimate goal is to play in the NBA as soon as possible“.

Thomas last appeared in the league with the LA Clippers before being waived in February 2020 and remains out of action since. The 32-year-old guard signed with the Washington Wizards before the start of last season and played in 40 games with an average of 12.2 points before being traded to the Clippers.
