Rajon Rondo has agreed with the Memphis Grizzlies on a contract buyout and the Los Angeles Lakers are the frontrunners to sign him, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Memphis has confirmed his departure. He will clear waivers on Monday, 30 August.

Rondo, 35, captured his second NBA championship as a member of the 2019-20 team of the Lakers. He since split the 2020-21 season between the Atlanta Hawks and the Los Angeles Clippers. A couple of weeks ago, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The former Kentucky point guard was rumored to have launched talks for a buyout contract, according to recent reports. In the same context, the Lakers were considered likely to bring him back, if he indeed became a free agent.

His 15th NBA campaign produced 5.1 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per contest between the Hawks and Clippers.
