Clint Capela suffers knee injury in Game 5 vs. Heat

The Miami Heat edged the Atlanta Hawks in Game 5 to advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals, though the latter team’s woes did not end there.

The Hawks saw big man Clint Capela exiting the game with an apparent hyperextended right knee after spending 19 minutes on the court. Capela scored only two points on 1-of-2 shooting from the field prior to his exit. The Swiss big also missed the first three games of the first-round series between the two teams and only made his return to action in Game 4.

Capela, 27, averaged 11.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per 21.4 minutes on the court across 74 contests this season, his second with the Hawks. Back in September 2021, he and the Hawks agreed to a two-year, $46M contract extension (through the 2024-25 season).

In the meantime, the Heat sealed a spot in the semifinals, where they will be called to face the winner of the Philadelphia 76ers – Toronto Raptors pair (PHI leads 3-2, Game 6 underway Thursday, April 28).
