Gregg Popovich: All of my best wines are older than Victor Wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama and wine are two things that San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich is rather occupied with.

The difference between the two? Wemby is younger than the top bottles in Popovich’s wine collection.

“All of my best wines are older than Victor [Wembanyama],” Popovich said in the post-game presser of the Spurs’ 122 – 115 win over the Brooklyn Nets.

The game included a new showtime performance by Victor Wembanyama. The French Rookie of the Year favorite had 33 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and seven blocks, delivering key stops in overtime.

Sounds like a display that can get even usually unimpressed Popovich kind of excited. But he mostly gets that kind of feeling when it comes to his beloved wine.

“I only get excited when I have an older French Bordeaux that I was worried it might be over the hill and I find out it was really perfect. Then I get excited,” Popovich said when asked if he’s still excited by coaching.
