Nikola Jokić is reportedly considering delaying a contract extension with the Denver Nuggets, despite being eligible to sign a new long-term deal this offseason.

According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, the Serbian superstar is weighing the possibility of holding off on signing an extension this summer. The two insiders report that Jokić feels no urgency to finalize a new deal, as a similar contract is expected to remain available next offseason.

Such a decision would not signal any uncertainty about his future in Denver. Jokić remains under contract for the 2026-27 season and also holds a player option for 2027-28. Following the Nuggets’ playoff exit, he reiterated that his plan is to remain “a Nugget forever.”

Earlier this week, Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations Ben Tenzer also downplayed any concerns about Jokić’s future, saying the organization feels “really comfortable” with its relationship with the Serbian star after he repeatedly expressed his desire to remain in Denver.

Jokić is currently preparing with the Serbian national team for the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifying window, while Denver’s front office continues to explore ways to strengthen the roster around its franchise player.
