Olympiacos Piraeus informed that Canadian center Khem Birch chose to opt out of his contract with the Greek club in order to continue his career with the Orlando Magic.

The player’s deadline to execute the opt-out clause in the two-year deal he signed the Reds last summer expired tonight (Monday 10/7) at midnight (CET +1).

Before agreeing with the Magic, Birch had attracted the attention various league teams, including the Brooklyn Nets, following his debut EuroLeague season. He’s now leaving Europe for the NBA, capitalizing on a solid season with Olympiacos.

The Canadian center finished 2016/2017 averaging 7.3 points, 5.6 rebounds plus 1 block during 18 minutes per game in EuroLeague, helping Olympiacos reach the competition’s Final. There he notched 14 points (on 4/4 shots, 6/8 from the line), 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in a loss to Fenerbahce.
